Plateau State Governor Denies Bribery Allegations, Calls for Investigation

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has categorically refuted baseless and defamatory allegations circulating in the media that three judges received a $5 million bribe to remove him from office. The accusations suggested that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, and others orchestrated the bribe to overturn Mutfwang’s victory in favor of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Nentawe Yiltwatda.

In an official statement released on Friday, Governor Mutfwang condemned the allegations, describing them as a deliberate attempt by detractors to sow discord between him and the judiciary. The statement, signed by Mutwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, expressed concern over the malicious publication and demanded a thorough investigation by security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The governor emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for spreading false information, stating, “Governor Mutfwang unequivocally distanced himself from the false narrative, dismissing it as mere fabrications crafted by individuals who are being manipulated as pawns by the opposition party in Plateau State.”

Governor Mutfwang asserted his commitment and confidence in the judiciary while warning against disparaging the justices and respected leaders. He urged those involved in destructive activities to desist immediately or face severe consequences.

The governor reiterated his unwavering support for the judiciary and emphasized that such malicious actions would not deter his commitment to the governance of Plateau State. The statement concluded by reaffirming Mutfwang’s call for a fair and transparent investigation to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and maintain public trust in the state’s institutions.
