Awoniyi Out of Africa Cup with Groin Injury

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast after aggravating his groin injury during the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Lesotho in Uyo last Thursday. The Nigerian striker underwent surgery as a result and is expected to be sidelined for months, according to Forest coach Steve Cooper.

The setback is a significant blow for Awoniyi, who has been in fine form for Nottingham Forest, scoring four goals in 11 Premier League appearances this season. Cooper expressed his disappointment over the situation, acknowledging Awoniyi’s importance to the team and highlighting the player’s professionalism and dedication.

Cooper stated, “It’s bad news on Taiwo; he’s had to have surgery, and he is going to be out for months. We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be, but it’s a really unfortunate situation and a blow for him.”

Awoniyi’s absence will be felt not only by Nottingham Forest but also by the Super Eagles as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast. The striker’s goal-scoring prowess and contributions will be missed, and the team will have to adjust their lineup in his absence.

Cooper expressed confidence in Awoniyi’s ability to bounce back from the injury, citing his previous successful return after a similar setback. Despite the extended recovery period required for groin surgery, Cooper expects to see Awoniyi back on the pitch later in the season.

The news of Awoniyi’s injury comes as a setback for both club and country, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to action after a successful recovery process.
