Six captives were freed on Friday from bandits’ captivity in a jungle in Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi, by Nigerian Army troops and local vigilantes.
The all-male hostages were rescued in good condition and were reunited with their families, according to a statement made in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday by Malam Yahaya Sarki, Governor Nasir Idris’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity.
“On Friday, vigilantes and soldiers from 1 Battalion, Dukku Barracks, Birinin Kebbi, invaded Kogon Damisa Hill near Saminaka in Shanga Local Government Area, a border town between Kebbi and Niger.
He said, “The victims had been kidnapped a long time ago, but they had previously been reported missing.”
Sarki praised the brave soldiers and reaffirmed the government’s unshakable commitment to aiding the state’s security institutions.
