Freetown, Sierra Leone faced a security challenge on Sunday when unidentified individuals targeted a military armoury, prompting the government to impose an immediate nationwide curfew. Reports from witnesses indicated the presence of gunshots and explosions in the Wilberforce district of the capital.
The Ministry of Information assured the public that security forces successfully repelled the attack and maintained control. In order to facilitate the apprehension of suspects, a countrywide curfew was implemented.
Details about the motives and identities of the attackers remain undisclosed. Sierra Leone has been navigating a political crisis following the presidential and general elections in June.
