[Current Date] – The Kano State Police Command has revealed the detection of groups plotting to unleash violence in the state following the recent Appeal Court ruling that led to the removal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Police Commissioner Usaini Gumel disclosed this information during a press briefing on Monday, stating that the command has already apprehended seven suspects in connection with the plot, and they will soon face charges in court.
Gumel explained that the arrested individuals were part of faceless groups, claiming to be traders, and were assembling at various points in the state, including several local government areas. He assured the public that the police are actively addressing the situation.
According to the Police Commissioner, these groups, using the guise of being traders, are exploiting religious sentiments to advance their agenda. He revealed that intelligence reports indicate their intentions, and the police are taking preventive measures.
Gumel noted that concerned citizens from areas such as Bebeji and Wudil reported that individuals were hiding under the pretext of reading the Quran for prayers. In response, the police have deployed personnel to disperse such gatherings.
Expressing concern, Gumel highlighted that these groups aim to provoke emotions against the police, alleging harassment of women during dispersal operations. He cautioned against the spread of false information through social media and traditional media, emphasizing that these actions are part of the groups’ strategy to achieve their malicious intentions.
The Kano State Police Command is actively monitoring the situation and remains committed to maintaining peace and order in the state. Gumel urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
