A police inspector in Kano State has been apprehended following an incident on Tuesday where he fired at a group of youths, resulting in the death of one person and injuring two others. The Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the unfortunate event occurred in Kurna Quarters, Fagge LGA, Kano State, on November 28, when rival groups of youths engaged in a fight. In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Gumel, directed the Area Commander Dala, ACP Nuhu Digi, to locate and apprehend the erring police inspector. The arrested police inspector is currently in police custody.

The statement expressed regret over the actions of the police inspector, emphasizing that such confrontations with the public, including firing gunshots, have not occurred since the assumption of office by CP Mohammed Gumel. The police command asserted its commitment to respecting the rights and freedom of all citizens and called on the public to trust that justice will be served in handling the situation.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to remain calm. The command assured that it is treating the incident with the utmost seriousness and is dedicated to upholding the principles of justice and transparency.
