FG Allocates N100bn for School Feeding 2024

President Bola Tinubu announced on Monday that the 2024 budget includes a significant allocation of N100 billion for the school feeding program. The President made this revelation during the signing of the 2024 appropriation bill into law at the State House in Abuja.

Highlighting the importance of this provision, Tinubu emphasized that the allocation aims to act as a stimulus to boost academic attendance and address the issue of out-of-school children. He expressed confidence that this financial commitment would encourage enrollment in learning environment and contribute to combating malnutrition among school children.

In his statement, President Tinubu stated, “One of the priority areas of the bill we just passed is the N100 billion provision for the feeding of school children. I believe that is a stimulant that will encourage school enrolment and also address malnutrition among academic children. I will be meeting with local government at sub-national levels so that we can collaborate and jointly implement an all-inclusive programme.”

The President further confirmed that the budget, named “Renewed Hope,” is centered on reducing recurrent expenditure while increasing capital expenditure. This strategic approach aims to allocate resources effectively for sustainable development and growth.

In a significant move earlier in December, President Tinubu ordered the reintroduction of the school feeding program, directing its transfer from the Humanitarian Ministry to the Education Ministry. The revamped program, which was previously halted under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to fall under the purview of the Education Ministry. This initiative not only focuses on providing nutritious meals to pupils but also aims to enhance attendance and improve the overall learning experience.
