Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has officially declared his intentions to contest the governorship election in Ondo State. As the race for the state’s top job gains momentum, Ebiseni expressed his belief that his orientation and knowledge of the state make him the most suitable candidate to lead.
Addressing journalists, Ebiseni highlighted the crucial nature of the upcoming November 16, 2024, election in Ondo State. He emphasized that all previous governors of the state were nurtured and influenced by the principles of Awolowo, showcasing a commitment to a particular political ideology.

A lawyer and former commissioner in the state, Ebiseni stressed the importance of understanding the people and the territory for the state’s development. He called for urgent diversification of the state’s economy, aiming to reduce excessive dependence on federal allocations and break free from economic bondage.
“In following the trajectory of governance from the Ajasin era, our state has had the rare privilege of being governed by individuals who are not only intellectually suave but also grounded in their chosen careers. They have been thoroughly bred and groomed in the ideology of the Awolowo school of thought,” said Ebiseni.
He further stated that a deep understanding of the state’s territory and its people is crucial for effective governance, allowing the leader to identify resources, create wealth, and ensure fair allocation without undue concentration in specific areas.

As the political landscape in Ondo State evolves, Ebiseni’s declaration adds a significant dimension to the unfolding dynamics leading up to the 2024 governorship election.
