Sugar Prices Surge: FG Takes Action

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has initiated engagements with major companies operating under the pioneer status of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP). The goal is to collaborate and address the escalating price of it in the country while enhancing local its production capacity.

The move is particularly aimed at maintaining price stability, especially with the upcoming Ramadan period, during which the demand for it traditionally surges. The Minister expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring stable prices and fostering a sustainable and thriving sugar industry in Nigeria.

Its refineries, in response, pledged their commitment to the government’s efforts in strengthening the agricultural sector for food security. The government also plans to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation to provide advanced machinery and equipment, reducing the need for importation and promoting international standards.

The Minister emphasized the importance of continued excellence and efficiency in its production, addressing performance concerns within the National Sugar Master Plan. The engagement between the government and the private sector is seen as a collaborative effort to achieve common goals and contribute to national development.
