ONDO: Evangelist, 5 others sentenced to death by hanging for robbing bank

Adewale Adelu, an evangelist, and five other people were condemned to death by hanging due to their roles and involvement in armed robberies in the state of Ondo State by an Akure High Court.

Adelu, Ikechuckwu Maduagwu, Ropo Adeleye, Fayemi Olubusuyi, Dele Otopka, and Bayo Omotosho were among the prisoners convicted of raiding and robbing two commercial banks in Akure and Idanre thirteen years prior.
The former Diamond Bank in Akure, the state capital of Ondo State, and the First Bank in Idanre, the Idanre Local Council headquarters, were the sites of the robbery occurrences.

The case was presided over by Justice Yemi Fasanmi, who also gave the guilty people their death sentences.

On July 14, 2022, the offenders were charged with four charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful firearm possession.

They were detained at the Olokuta Correctional Center after their arraignment.

The prosecution’s evidence, provided by Salami during the trial, showed that the prisoners were responsible for the robberies that rocked the towns of Akure and Idanre. They were armed with AK-47 rifles and dynamite.

Justice Fasanmi condemned all of the defendants to death by hanging in each of the counts, despite the fact that she stated that the defendants’ confessions and the roles they each played in the operations were unanimous.
