Deputy Commissioner of Police Reportedly Commits Suicide in Ogbomoso, Oyo State

In a shocking turn of events, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gbolahan Oyedemi, serving with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos State, has reportedly taken his own life at his private residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

According to sources close to the family, Oyedemi, who previously served as the Aide de Camp to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his brief tenure, was found deceased on Monday. The circumstances surrounding his tragic demise remain unclear.

Findwhosabi reports that Oyedemi had a tradition of visiting his hometown during the Easter celebrations. However, this year, he instructed his aides to spend the holiday with their respective families, indicating that he intended to be alone.

A source close to the family revealed, “Yes, he committed suicide. His body was found hanging in his house yesterday (Monday). He stays alone, and he normally comes home for Easter celebrations.”

Despite efforts to reach out to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for comments on the incident, all attempts were unsuccessful as his mobile number remained unreachable.

Confirming the tragic news, DSP Eguaoje Funmilayo, the Police Public Relations Officer of FCID, Alagbon, expressed that the circumstances surrounding Oyedemi’s death were still unclear. She emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

“No one can tell specifically what the cause of his death is until an investigation is carried out. There is no official statement from the Inspector General of Police yet. So, I won’t be able to tell you anything about it for now. No official statement is approved by the IG,” she stated.

The untimely death of Deputy Commissioner Gbolahan Oyedemi has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community, prompting questions and calls for a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances leading to his tragic demise.
