Dele Momodu, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has leveled accusations against the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the ruling party is actively working to dismantle opposition forces in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Thursday, Momodu claimed that the APC is employing various tactics, including coercion and inducement, to destabilize opposing voices.
Momodu asserted that the APC’s strategy involves both financial inducements for those susceptible to bribery and intimidation tactics against those resistant to corruption, all aimed at causing disarray within opposition ranks.
He particularly pointed fingers at President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of suppressing opposition despite his own history as a formidable opposition leader before his party’s ascent to power, which saw the displacement of the PDP as Nigeria’s ruling party.
“APC will do everything possible to destroy opposition; buy those who are buyable, to terrorise those who are not buyable and make sure that the party is in disarray, that is all,” stated Momodu during the interview.
Reflecting on Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State, Momodu expressed admiration for the role Tinubu played as an opposition leader. However, he lamented the current scenario where a former opposition leader now occupies a governmental position, yet fails to tolerate opposition, deeming it an ironic shift in dynamics.
Momodu’s remarks come at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal conflicts stemming from the fallout of its presidential election primary in 2023, which ultimately contributed to its defeat in the subsequent general election.
