Renowned Nigerian pastor, Dr. Abel Damina, faces backlash for unconventional remedy to porn addiction, stirring debate among Christians.
In a recent sermon on Comfort FM’s RIOT programme, Damina advised addicts not to struggle but to watch porn while immersing themselves in God’s word.
“Keep watching porn, but spend more time studying God’s word,” he urged. “Your desire for porn will vanish.”
However, his advice ignited dissent, especially from conservative Christians like Pastor Gideon Odoma, who labeled pornography as a perversion.
“Trivializing sin leads believers astray,” Odoma criticized, slamming Damina’s teachings.
Echoing the disapproval, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome emphasized pornography as sinful, citing biblical references.
Social media erupted with criticism, with users like @ab_seyi expressing sadness over Damina’s stance.
Others like @okaforsandra20 denounced the advice, citing biblical principles of fleeing from evil.
But some, including Pastor Oge, defended Damina’s approach, citing personal struggles with addiction.
“He didn’t convey it well, but it’s the biblical way,” Pastor Oge defended.
Despite the criticism, supporters like Evangelist Precious defended Damina’s stance, urging critics to read scriptures for themselves.
The controversy highlights the ongoing debate within the Christian community on addressing addiction and sin.
Damina, known for his leadership in Kingdom Life Network and Power City International, remains a polarizing figure in Nigeria’s religious landscape.
