A prominent member of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof Usman Yusuf, has criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari for neglecting his home state of Katsina during his eight-year tenure. Speaking on a Channels Television programme on Sunday, Yusuf accused Buhari of failing to execute meaningful projects in the North West zone, despite completing legacy projects in other parts of the country.
Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), pointed out that although the northern region had significant representation in Buhari’s administration, there were no tangible developments to show for it. He highlighted the unfinished Abuja-Kano highway as a major example of the neglect.
“The chief of staff was the one who pushed for the creation of the NEDC. Now, there is a Vice President, National Security Adviser, and others from the north. What are they doing to address this issue? But we complain in the North West that we had a president that we never got anything from,” Yusuf stated.
He further lamented, “Go to Katsina today where I come from, there is nothing to show we had a president for eight years. In the North West, let him tell us what he has done.”
Yusuf also held the governors of the northern region accountable for the poor development, criticizing their inaction and lack of effective leadership.
