Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has announced he is suspending his relationship with the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP). Okonkwo, a prominent figure in the Labour Party’s Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, emphasized his commitment to a new Nigeria, stating he would rather lose while doing the right thing than win through dishonest means.
In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Okonkwo criticized the current leadership of the Labour Party, likening it to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he previously left due to concerns over incompetence and corruption. He condemned the national convention organized by Abure, calling it a display of criminality and corruption.
“I am suspending my relationship in all ramifications with the purported Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party. For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing. I prefer to lose doing the right thing to winning doing the wrong thing,” Okonkwo wrote.
He continued, “Nothing can wash out the criminality, corruption, and incompetence with which the purported National Convention was organized by Abure. I did not leave the comfort of a ruling party, APC, because I believe they are incompetent and dishonest, only to come and join another incompetent and corrupt association, which is the current Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party.”
Okonkwo’s stance highlights his unwavering commitment to integrity and his vision for a better Nigeria, even as he distances himself from the current Labour Party leadership.
