Obaseki Begins Paying ₦70,000 Minimum Wage

The administration of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has commenced the payment of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage to state workers. This increase, from the previous ₦40,000, was announced by Obaseki during the recent inauguration of the Labour House in Benin City as a measure to mitigate the harsh economic conditions.

State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, confirmed that the May salaries reflecting the new minimum wage have been paid. This step underscores the Obaseki administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers in the state.

Nehikhare encouraged workers to maintain their dedication and contribute effectively to the administration’s goals, highlighting that this wage increase is part of the state government’s efforts to support its employees amid challenging economic times.
