A 54-year-old man, Monday John, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, for attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl.
The incident transpired on October 16, 2020, at No. 27 Olarenwaju Street, Bariga, where John attempted to put his hand in the victim’s vagina.
The prosecution counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, argued before the court that the convict’s actions constituted an attempt to commit sexual assault by penetration, contrary to Section 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The judge ordered John to be registered as a sex offender and encouraged him to use his time in prison as an opportunity to reflect on his actions and change for the better.
