The North Central forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the implementation of a regional system of governance in Nigeria. The forum argues that this system would allow each region to independently address its needs using its resources, educational standards, political influence, and agricultural practices.
During a press conference in Jos, Plateau State, the forum’s chairman, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, highlighted the neglect and marginalization experienced by the North Central region despite its significant contributions to agriculture, education, natural resources, and political leadership. He emphasized that the region’s potential in agriculture, particularly in states like Benue, Plateau, Niger, and Kogi, remains underutilized, and its valuable natural resources are not fully optimized to promote economic prosperity.
Zazzaga called for the adoption of a regional system where power is divided among regions, allowing them to develop independently while the federal government handles national security, foreign affairs, and interstate commerce. He stressed the North Central APC Forum’s commitment to advocating for the region’s advancement and addressing the political marginalization it faces, including recent issues like the contested APC National Chairmanship position favoring the North West region.
