A coalition of Civil Society Organisations under the Middle-Belt Pan Nigerian Forum has called on Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to accept the outcome of the 2023 presidential election won by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The group’s spokesperson, Danladi Ceceko, emphasized that the election was one of the most transparent in the country’s history and reflected the will of Nigerians, a sentiment further validated by the Supreme Court.
Ceceko urged Obi to stop discrediting institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that Obi had previously benefited from INEC when he was restored as Anambra State Governor. The coalition criticized Obi’s comparison of Nigeria’s electoral process to South Africa’s, pointing out that both countries faced technical glitches during elections.
The group highlighted the inconsistency in Obi’s stance, noting that he praised the credibility of elections conducted by INEC when his ally, Governor Alex Otti of Abia, won, yet questioned the integrity of the presidential election he lost. The coalition argued that technical issues should not invalidate election outcomes and called for respect and support for national institutions.
