Sule Lamido Challenges Tinubu’s Legacy in Lagos

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has contested the widely held belief that President Bola Tinubu is the architect of modern Lagos State. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Lamido argued that Lagos’s development was significantly funded by the federal government before Tinubu’s tenure as governor from 1999 to 2007.

Lamido, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that major infrastructure in Lagos, including the port, airport, and bridges, were established with federal funds. He criticized Tinubu’s national administration, citing its failures and asserting that Tinubu did not build Lagos.

Lamido also criticized recent policies under Tinubu’s presidency, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy and the free-floating of the naira, which have resulted in increased petrol prices, higher living costs, and record inflation. He highlighted the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, suggesting that if managed well, the government could meet the demands for a new minimum wage.
