MultiChoice Lowers Subscription Rates Following Court Order

MultiChoice, Nigeria’s leading satellite television provider, has readjusted its subscription rates for DStv and GOtv users after a court mandate. The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja ordered the company to revert to its previous pricing structure following a controversial price hike that sparked widespread consumer backlash and regulatory scrutiny.

The price adjustments, effective June 16, 2024, have led to significant reductions across various packages. The DStv Premium package is now N29,500, down from N37,000, while the Compact+ package is reduced from N25,000 to N19,800. The Compact Bouquet package now costs N12,500, reduced from N15,700, and the Confam package is N7,400, down from N9,300.

GOtv subscribers also benefit from the price reductions. The Super+ package is now N12,500, previously N15,700, and the Super package is N7,600, reduced from N9,600. The GOtv Max package is now N5,700, down from N6,300, while the Joli package costs N3,950, reduced from N4,500. The Jinja package is now N2,700, down from N3,200.

MultiChoice’s compliance with the court order comes amid ongoing legal proceedings, with the company citing rising costs and inflation as reasons for the initial price hike. The tribunal’s intervention aims to address consumer concerns and ensure fair pricing in the market.
