Collins Ikwebe, 20, was apprehended, according to the Lagos State Police Command, on Sunday. Collins allegedly staged his kidnapping and sought a ransom from his father.
Collins was being held for allegedly planning the crime, along with four female and one male accomplice whose names were not released, according to the command.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, verified the arrests of the suspects while rejecting a complaint made by one of them alleging unlawful confinement.
Following a widely shared post by X.com user @Flacko TG, who stated he was being held in the Ikeja Police Division for a crime he didn’t commit and wanted the public to know where he was, Hundeyin made his admission.
Hundeyin stated that the boys arrested had demanded a ransom from Collin’s father after executing their plan.
He further revealed that the 20-year-old faked his kidnapping while staying with other suspects in a short-let apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos before their arrest.
