The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have confirmed their plans to protest on Tuesday against unpaid salary arrears by the Federal Government. Despite a recent meeting with government officials ending in a deadlock, the unions are determined to press forward with their demands.
NASU National President, Makolo Hassan, stated in an interview that the protests will commence nationwide at their branches, with hopes that the government might intervene to prevent the demonstrations. Hassan emphasized that the protest is necessary due to the unresolved issue of salary arrears, which affects their members.
Following the initial protest, the unions plan to escalate their actions to a national level in Abuja. Hassan mentioned that if the situation remains unchanged after the Abuja protest on the 18th, the unions will reassess and determine their next steps.
