Channels Television Reporter Harassed by Thugs During Protest in Port Harcourt

A Channels Television reporter, Deborah Agbalam, was harassed by thugs while covering the #EndBadGovernance protest in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The thugs, stationed near the Federal Secretariat, intimidated and dispersed protesters, with witnesses reporting that two protesters had been assaulted before Agbalam’s arrival.

The Federal Secretariat, a key location for the week-long protest, has seen continuous gatherings demanding an end to hunger and poor governance. Despite the presence of over 20 police officers, no action was taken against the thugs, raising concerns about the protection of protest rights in Rivers State.

Rivers State Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu has expressed concern over these incidents and promised a thorough investigation to hold those responsible accountable. Despite previous efforts to support peaceful protests, the situation on Wednesday highlighted significant challenges as the nationwide protest, now in its seventh day, continues to see increasing violence.
