Niyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, reportedly collapsed on Monday evening after attending a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja. According to sources, Ijalaye appeared in good spirits during the meeting, which was focused on the upcoming off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo States.
The incident occurred shortly after Ijalaye returned to his hotel room at the Bon Octagon Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory. His current condition remains uncertain as of the time of this report.
Ijalaye, who is from Ondo State, has been serving as Ogun State’s REC since March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State. More details are expected to follow.
