Ortom Reveals 2023 Election Loss Due to Lack of Divine Consultation

Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has attributed his loss in the 2023 senatorial election to his failure to seek guidance from God. Speaking in Makurdi during a visit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G-14 members, Ortom acknowledged that he went against divine instruction by participating in the election without first consulting God. He shared that God has since advised him not to run in the 2027 elections, a directive he intends to honor.

Ortom, who served as governor for two terms, expressed his commitment to supporting the PDP in future endeavors, emphasizing the party’s determination to reclaim the Benue Government House in 2027. He reflected on his political journey, admitting that his decision to contest in 2023 was driven by his people, who purchased the senatorial forms for him without seeking divine approval. According to him, this misstep was the reason behind his electoral defeat.

The former governor also recounted the personal sacrifices he made while in office, stating that he often prioritized state matters over his family and friends. Ortom reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, asserting that no individual’s ambition should overshadow the collective interest of the party. Despite wanting to take a sabbatical after leaving office, he noted that the elders of the party had persuaded him to remain engaged in party activities.
