Tony Okocha, the former Rivers State APC Chairman, has openly admitted to rigging local council elections while serving under ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Okocha, who was Chief of Staff during Amaechi’s administration from 2007 to 2015, made the confession during a recent interview on Channels TV.
Tony Okocha defended his actions, suggesting that he should be seen as a whistleblower rather than a criminal, arguing that the law should not retroactively punish him for past actions. He emphasized that his admission was an attempt to shed light on election manipulation tactics and prevent their use in future elections.

The former chairman explained that his decision to speak out was driven by his knowledge of the methods being used in ongoing political scenarios. He further stated that his aim was to prevent others from employing similar election-rigging tactics.
