Nigeria Customs Service Hits ₦5.7 Trillion Revenue Goal for 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced a revenue collection of ₦5.7 trillion as of November 12, 2024. This milestone was shared by Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, at the annual Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja. The event, themed “Nigeria Customs Service: Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” highlighted the service’s plans for ongoing economic contributions.

Adeniyi expressed confidence in the agency’s success, noting they surpassed their ₦5.07 trillion target a month ahead of schedule. The NCS attributes this to strategic engagement and collaborative initiatives. For instance, six new companies were recently enrolled in the Authorised Economic Operators programme, which aims to streamline customs procedures. Adeniyi also mentioned the advance ruling programme, which has expedited customs processes by allowing pre-arrival decisions on imports and exports.

In addition, the NCS’s “Operation Whirlwind,” a joint effort with the National Security Adviser’s office and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency, has focused on reducing fuel smuggling. Adeniyi commended this operation and other measures that have contributed to faster cargo clearance and shorter port wait times, reinforcing the NCS’s commitment to improving trade facilitation in Nigeria.
