Tinubu’s Aide Criticizes Obasanjo’s Record, Defends Current Administration

The Presidency has responded sharply to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent remarks on President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, accusing Obasanjo of leaving behind a legacy marked by corruption and poor infrastructure. Sunday Dare, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, criticized Obasanjo’s comments, made at Yale University, calling them insincere and accusing the former president of engaging in “mischief.” Dare highlighted allegations that $16 billion meant for power infrastructure under Obasanjo’s administration yielded no results, leaving Nigeria’s power sector struggling.

Dare further claimed that Obasanjo’s tenure inflicted damage on Nigeria’s democratic processes, referencing the attempted third-term bid, which he described as a “mortal wound” to democracy. According to Dare, successive governments, including Tinubu’s, have had to tackle the “mess” left behind by Obasanjo. He argued that Obasanjo’s criticisms overlook his own failures, suggesting the former president lacks the moral standing to condemn any government.

Defending Tinubu’s efforts, Dare stated that the current administration is working tirelessly to restore Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic stability. He urged Obasanjo to reflect on his own contributions to Nigeria’s challenges rather than criticizing current leaders.
