A devastating accident on the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State claimed 13 lives, leaving one survivor with severe injuries. The crash, which occurred at Abule Panu, Ose Bridge, involved two buses that burst into flames after a head-on collision on Saturday morning.
According to the Ondo State FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, the accident was caused by a tyre burst on one of the buses, leading to a loss of control and a collision with another vehicle. Of the 14 passengers involved, 13 were burned beyond recognition, while the lone survivor was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo. The remains of the deceased have also been deposited at the hospital morgue.
Dr. Ibitoye emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and patient driving to prevent such tragedies. He further urged passengers to hold drivers accountable for safe practices, stressing the need for vigilance and responsibility on the roads.
