Labour Party Rules Out Automatic Ticket for Obi

The Labour Party (LP) has clarified that its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not automatically receive the party’s ticket for the 2027 elections. While calls grow for a united opposition to challenge President Bola Tinubu, LP emphasized that all positions remain open for contest.

Amid speculation about a coalition involving LP, PDP, and NNPP, Obi denied any ongoing merger talks but urged opposition unity. Meanwhile, PDP chieftain Mathias Adache stressed the need for collaboration to avoid repeating the 2023 fragmented approach, which cost the opposition victory.

Labour Party member Henry Ternenge echoed this sentiment, noting that combined opposition votes in 2023 far exceeded Tinubu’s total. Despite acknowledging these numbers, LP maintains its democratic process, emphasizing that merit, not assumptions, will determine its 2027 flagbearer.
