Ekiti’s First Indigenous Broadcaster Dies at 74

Veteran broadcaster Christianah Ademulegun, widely known as ‘Eye Opitan,’ has passed away at the age of 74. Renowned for her deep knowledge of Ekiti history and traditional praise poetry (oriki), she died in the early hours of Thursday after a brief illness, according to a statement from her son, Femi Ademulegun.

Ademulegun, who retired from the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, also consulted for private stations before her passing. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy in indigenous broadcasting.

Meanwhile, the Nollywood industry mourns the loss of actor Columbus Irisoanga, popularly known as ‘Igbudu,’ whose death was announced by veteran actress Hilda Dokubo. His passing comes just days after actress Pat Ugwu also died at 35, marking a sorrowful period for the entertainment industry.
