Former Labour Party chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has warned that fielding a southern presidential candidate in the 2027 election could lead to defeat. Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Okonkwo expressed doubts about the party’s future, citing ongoing defections and weak leadership as major concerns.
Okonkwo criticized the party’s leaders for focusing on positions instead of addressing the mass defection of lawmakers to other parties. He stressed that the leadership needs to prioritize unity and strategy instead of chasing after personal gains.
He further warned that having both the national chairman and the presidential candidate from the South in 2027 would be a losing strategy. Okonkwo claimed such moves are driven by financial interests rather than genuine efforts to win the election.
