Tems Becomes First African Female Artist to Hit 1 Billion Streams

Nigerian singer Tems has made history as the first African female artist to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. The milestone was achieved with her collaboration on “Wait For U” alongside Future and Drake.

The 2022 track, which samples Tems’ “Higher” from her EP For Broken Ears, debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100—a first for an African artist. The song also earned two Grammy nominations and won Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Tems’ success continues with her second Grammy win for Best African Music Performance for “Love Me JeJe” at the 67th Grammys.
