NLC Rejects NSCDC Warnings Over Planned Telecom Shutdown

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos chapter, led by Funmi Sessi, has rejected warnings from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over its planned March 1 shutdown of telecom services. The NLC announced it would take action if the Nigerian Communications Commission did not reverse the 50% tariff hike by the end of February.

NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi warned that disrupting telecom services could jeopardize national security and expose the country to criminal activities. He stated that the NSCDC had deployed officers nationwide to protect telecom infrastructure and prevent any illegal actions.

Sessi dismissed the warnings, stating that no threats would stop Labour from defending their cause. She accused the security forces of intimidation and declared that workers were determined to fight for their common rights, even if it meant escalating the protests further.
