Former Ondo State First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has demanded the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio following allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a statement on her 𝕏 handle, she criticized Akpabio’s handling of the issue, particularly involving his wife, Unoma Akpabio, in the controversy. She argued that in more advanced societies, leaders facing such accusations would step aside to clear their names.
Akeredolu also defended Senator Natasha, commending her courage for speaking out despite criticisms. She condemned the reassignment of Natasha’s seat in the Senate without prior notice, calling it disrespectful and a violation of her rights. She emphasized that such practices, even if done in the past, should be corrected, applauding Natasha for challenging the norm.
Highlighting the underrepresentation of women in Nigeria’s National Assembly, Akeredolu lamented that only four female senators exist out of 109. She called on Nigerian women to support Natasha, stressing that her bold stance is necessary to bring attention to systemic issues in governance and gender representation.
