Peruvian fisherman Máximo Napa Castro survived an incredible 95 days lost at sea after his boat drifted off course during a fishing trip. He set out from Marcona on December 7 with food for two weeks but was caught in a storm just ten days in, leaving him stranded in the vast Pacific Ocean.

Rescue teams failed to locate him, but last Wednesday, an Ecuadorian fishing patrol finally found him 680 miles from shore. Castro, dehydrated and weak, shared how he survived by drinking rainwater and eating roaches, birds, and turtles until he had nothing left for the last 15 days.

“I did not want to die,” he said, explaining that thoughts of his newborn granddaughter and mother kept him going. His mother, Elena Castro, admitted she had lost hope, but her daughters never gave up faith. Now reunited with his family, Castro is grateful for a second chance at life.
