The Presidency has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for defending Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a corps member who called President Bola Tinubu “terrible.” Atiku, in a statement, praised Raye as a courageous voice of Nigerian youth, commending her boldness in speaking truth to power.
Reacting to Atiku’s stance, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, dismissed it as “poor politics.” In a Facebook post, he argued that a former Vice President should not support what he described as indiscipline, emphasizing that corps members are bound by strict codes of conduct.
Ajayi further stated that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), like the military and civil service, has regulations that restrict public criticism of the government. He warned that those who choose to defy the rules must be prepared to face the consequences.
