Opposition Faces Tough Road to 2027 Election

Former Labour Party campaign chief, Akin Oshuntokun, has raised doubts about the chances of a united opposition against President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Speaking on Arise TV, he pointed out that the presidential ambitions of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar could make coalition efforts difficult.

Oshuntokun noted that Obi enjoys strong youth support, while Atiku has Northern backing. Unless one of them steps aside, he warned, the opposition could face the same divisions that led to Tinubu’s victory in 2023. He suggested that Obi might need to reconsider his bid and focus on building a broader political movement.

Meanwhile, internal struggles within the Social Democratic Party (SDP) also cast doubt on coalition efforts. While some party members claim leadership disputes, the party’s secretary, Olu Agunloye, denied any crisis and welcomed new political figures, including former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
