Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Calls Senate a ‘Secret Society’

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused the Nigerian Senate of suppressing opposing voices, claiming that lawmakers are too afraid to challenge Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She alleged that senators who speak out risk losing opportunities and privileges, creating a toxic atmosphere of fear.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Akpoti-Uduaghan also accused Akpabio of making inappropriate remarks towards her, recalling instances where he and other senators made suggestive comments. She described these encounters as part of a larger problem of intimidation within the Senate.

However, Senate Deputy Majority Leader Onyekachi Nwokedi dismissed her claims, stating that the Senate does not silence its members and that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations do not reflect the true situation. He denied any inappropriate behavior from Akpabio and maintained that the Senate operates fairly.
