A Federal High Court in Lokoja has overturned its earlier ruling that stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting a recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a landmark judgment on Friday, the court affirmed that the recall process is a constitutional right of her constituents.
The ruling follows an initial injunction issued on Thursday that temporarily restrained INEC from acting on the petition. The injunction was granted after a motion filed by some registered voters in Kogi Central, seeking to halt the recall process until the court fully addressed the matter.
With the latest judgment, INEC is now free to proceed with the recall petition. The court also urged constituents to exercise their rights peacefully and in line with the law.
