Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is exuding confidence ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.
The Nigerian team, led by coach Eric Chelle, will host the Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday evening. Troost-Ekong has expressed strong belief in the squad’s ability to secure a vital victory.
The Super Eagles head into the match on the back of a 2-0 triumph over Rwanda, where Chelle implemented a different tactical approach. Despite the shift in strategy, Troost-Ekong remains optimistic, emphasizing the players’ ability to adapt.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, he praised the intelligence of his teammates, highlighting their experience at the highest level.
“We’ve got a lot of intelligent players who play at a high level,” he stated. “They’re used to changing tactics, so it’s not like we need to spell out how to play football. The coach said before that we have a lot of quality in the team. And we saw that in the last game.”
Currently, Nigeria sits in 4th place in the qualification standings with six points. The team will be eager to claim all three points against Zimbabwe to strengthen their position in the race for a World Cup spot.
