The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has praised a court ruling that declared his removal as Speaker illegal, unconstitutional, and void. The judgment, delivered on Wednesday, also annulled the actions and resolutions of the House that led to his ousting on January 13, 2025.
Obasa, who was reinstated as Speaker, had filed a lawsuit against the House and the then newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. The court ruling, passed by Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, followed Obasa’s claim that his removal took place while the Assembly was on recess and he was abroad. In a statement, Obasa called the judgment a victory for the Assembly and vowed to continue working in unity for the betterment of Lagos State and Nigeria.
