Borno Governor Babagana Zulum has taken steps to support farmers in the region by providing free transportation to their farmlands. Addressing farmers near Maiduguri, the capital, Zulum announced the release of 80 vehicles consisting of 50 long buses and 30 pick-up vans.
This initiative aims to alleviate the impact of increased transportation costs resulting from the removal of petrol subsidies. The buses, sourced from the state-owned Borno Express Corporation, along with additional hired pick-up vans, will facilitate farmers’ access to their farmlands during the rainy season. Governor Zulum also emphasized the importance of cooperation between farmers and the military, police, and other security agencies deployed to ensure their protection. As the planting season resumes in Borno, this support is crucial for the predominantly agrarian area.
