Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), expressed her appreciation to Peter Egbudom, Chairman of the 2023 IgboFest in Minnesota, United States, for his efforts in promoting Nigerian culture overseas. The commendation was given during Egbudom’s visit to Dabiri-Erewa’s office in Abuja.
Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of culture as an integral part of a community. She encouraged Egbudom to expand the festival’s reach and gain global recognition, as she believes the world should be acquainted with this remarkable culture.
In response, Egbudom invited the Federal Government to capitalize on Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, citing numerous opportunities for attracting foreign direct investment through tourism and culture. He mentioned that the 28th edition of the festival will showcase diverse Nigerian cultures and cuisine, serving as a platform to promote Nigeria.
Egbudom also highlighted the significance of fostering cultural understanding and embracing diversity, particularly in an increasingly interconnected world. He viewed the festival as a way to boost the self-esteem of the younger generation, providing them with a sense of identity and engagement, while steering them away from issues like depression and drug abuse.
The festival is scheduled to take place on August 11 and 12, 2023, in Minnesota, United States.
