Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is preparing to resume office once he receives medical clearance from his team of doctors.
Earlier, due to his health issues and political pressures, Governor Akeredolu formally informed the State House of Assembly about his decision to take a leave of absence. During his absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of acting governor.
The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, confirmed that Akeredolu commenced his 21-day medical leave on June 7th and would be away until July 6th. The extension was necessary due to public holidays on June 12th (Democracy Day) and the Eid el Kabir festival on June 28th and 29th.
As his one-month leave concludes, Akeredolu expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming affection, prayers, and support he received from the people. In a statement by his Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Akeredolu described the continuous prayers and well wishes as comforting and invigorating.
He thanked the citizens of Ondo State for their unwavering prayers and messages of goodwill, which have served as a driving force for his recovery and commitment to serving the people. Akeredolu also expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his team, party leaders, fellow governors, and members of the State House of Assembly.
The governor acknowledged that the outpouring of genuine affection and solidarity had provided him with the determination to regain his strength and continue his service to the people, particularly the residents of Ondo State.
Akeredolu conveyed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his team, party leaders, fellow governors, and members of the State House of Assembly for their unwavering support. He remains optimistic and eagerly awaits the time when his doctors deem it suitable for him to rejoin the people of the state.
