During the ongoing proceedings at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for their defense strategy against the petitions filed against them. Speaking to journalists after the hearing on July 5, 2023, Uzoukwu, who represents the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, mocked the APC for failing to produce any witnesses while other respondents (Tinubu, Shettima, INEC) were able to present at least one.
Expressing satisfaction with the tribunal’s proceedings, Uzoukwu stated that the hearing had concluded successfully, and the next step would involve preparing written addresses. He noted that INEC called one witness and closed its case, while the second and third respondents called one witness each before closing their cases. In contrast, the APC chose not to call any witnesses before closing its case. Despite this, Uzoukwu expressed contentment with the overall progress of the tribunal.
