President Tinubu, in his address at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) and 160th Anniversary of the Nigerian Army, expressed his government’s awareness of Nigeria’s security situation. He emphasized their readiness to address citizens’ concerns and ensure national security promptly.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the event and reassured Nigerians of the government’s determination to tackle threats and safeguard the country. Tinubu pledged to prioritize the welfare of the Nigerian Army and the entire Armed Forces, addressing issues such as equipment, funding, and operational constraints within constitutional boundaries.
Tinubu’s administration has implemented a comprehensive mechanism to effectively address challenges faced by the Armed Forces, enabling them to carry out their operations efficiently. The President called for unity among Nigerians, urging them to reject any divisive actions. He commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their joint efforts in combating Boko Haram and urged them to replicate their success in tackling banditry and other criminal activities destabilizing the nation.
The event was attended by notable personalities including Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar. Also present were a representative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, two former Chiefs of Army Staff, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other traditional leaders.
The occasion showcased the Nigerian Army’s abilities and professionalism through demonstrations of combat vehicles, equipment, and physical training.
