A final-year student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has been arrested by the Edo state police command for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death. The suspect claimed that the girlfriend had accused him of being a kidnapper, which led to the violent incident.
The crime occurred on August 21 at an apartment in Benin City, Edo state. The suspect, Victor Ochonogor, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Success Regha, in the neck and chest with a knife during a violent altercation. The police recovered the knife and rushed both the suspect and the deceased to a hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead.
Items recovered from the suspect included two blood-stained knives, two iPhones, one Nokia phone, one laptop, and two ATM cards. The case has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Benin, and the suspect is expected to be charged with murder.
The suspect claimed to have been dating the victim for three years.
