Governor Alex Otti of Abia State officially launched the much-anticipated revitalization process for Aba, the thriving commercial hub of the state, with the handover of nine road projects to various contractors. Led by his Works Special Adviser, Otumchere Oti, Governor Otti embarked on a tour of the deteriorated roads across the Aba metropolis, despite the afternoon showers.
The governor’s presence was met with enthusiasm from the residents who cheered on the entourage, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, his deputy Augustine Meregini, and Deputy Majority Leader Destiny Nwagwu.
Expressing his dismay at the state of disrepair, Otti emphasized the importance of clearing the drainages as the first step towards rebuilding the roads effectively. He stressed that without proper drainage, durable roads would be impossible to construct. As exemplified by the ongoing work on Azikiwe Road, the focus is on clearing the drainages, desilting them, and ensuring a smooth flow of water to the Aba River. The selected roads handed over to the contractors today are the ones slated for complete reconstruction, while additional roads will be included in the future.
To alleviate the plight of motorists in Aba and mitigate their suffering, immediate attention will be given to University Road, Abayi, Green Avenue, Udeagbala Road, Shallom Road, Umuimo Road, Old Express Road, Abak Road, Queens Street, and Jubilee Road. Moreover, the desilting of drains has already commenced on Azikiwe Road and will continue on many other roads to enable the unhindered flow of stormwater and reduce flooding issues.
The rejuvenation of Aba has now set in motion, promising a brighter future for the city’s infrastructure and the overall well-being of its residents.Aba Road Projects
